History of the Calgary Booster Club

The founders of the club held their first informal meeting at the Club Cafe in downtown Calgary in 1951. Perhaps the greatest contribution occurred in 1979 when the club acted as the catalyst for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games bid. Directors of the club continue to serve Calgarians in their athletic pursuits which include:

Recognition of Calgary's Outstanding Sportsmen

  • Recognize annually, the Calgary Sportsman of the Year
  • Recognize athletic leaders and sport builders in the City of Calgary.
  • Recognize, with the Calgary Sports Media Club, the City's Female Athlete of the Year, who receives the Henry Viney Award
  • Recognize, with the Calgary Sports Media Club, the City's Male Athlete of the Year, who receives the Scott-Mamini Trophy.
  • Recognize, in partnership with the City of Calgary, athletes' achievements in national and international competitions.

Co-Sponsorship with the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association

  • Recognition annually of fifteen student athletes for outstanding achievement academically, athletically, and within the community
  • Host annual tip-off Tournaments in volleyball and basketball and the swimming and diving meet.
  • Award up to ten annual scholastic/athletic scholarships for post-secondary education

Co-Sponsorship with the Silver Dollar Bowl

  • 1 male and 1 female scholarship recognizing academics, citizenship and bowling achievement
  • Sponsorship of Post-Secondary Grants
  • Award up to ten annual scholastic/athletic grants to post-secondary athletes

  • Sponsorship of the Spring Swing Golf Program
